After nearly three weeks of solid rain and temperatures in the 30s, the sun and bright blue skies broke out for one day. Then, to cap it all off, golden hour was about as perfect as you could wish for.
Here in Ferndale, we got a one-day break from the rain (not the cold, though) but it will inevitably be back. When Joscelyn and I arrived in mid-August it seemed the sun and warmth would never end. August stretched into September, then into October, but the November storms, with their gale-force winds and power outages, did arrive…inevitably. And despite the one-day reprieve, they’ll be back.
The Pacific Northwest is opening up to me in ways I never expected. The big sky, wide vistas, looming mountains, endless berry fields, all of it is new to me. Sometimes I feel like Calvin, “It’s a magical world, Hobbes, ol’ buddy. Let’s go exploring!”
